Question: Is Network Load Balancing the same than multiple server instances, and role-based service installation? Eg, when I want to do Network Load Balancing, am I splitting up the different services on different serves (like the example stated with the asynchronous processing service), or am I installing all services on different servers and letting IIS decide which server will attend which request? Thus, do I need the Enterprise Edition if I want to do NLB?

Hi Mitch,

I normally recommend the Enterprise Edition to most customers because you can have production, development, testing, acceptance, and training systems all running on a single CRM server and single database server (or all on a single combined CRM/database server you only have a few users).

With Professional Edition, you'd need five CRM server licenses and five database servers for this same deployment.

I normally recommend avoiding the Workgroup Edition, even if it you got it free with a Microsoft Action Pack Subscription. The five user limit was a crazy idea that has killed the Workgroup Edition.
