It's the simple things in life that just seem to piss me off
So I've been setting here all afternoon heads-down in a project when I finally realize that I'm "uncomfortable" and need to take a walk down the hall to use the facilities.
Like most restrooms, the one's here in my office have an automatic air-freshener that periodically dispenses odor-fighting smell-good stuff.
In the men's room at least, the device's placement is an issue. It was installed by someone who was either short or lacked common sense.
I am 6'1" tall and this device is dead level with the middle of forehead – which in itself, isn't necessarily a bad thing. The real problem lies with the fact that the device is placed about 12-14 inches from the centerline of the toilet.
So I'm standing there, doing my business, and this thing fires off a round of smell-good – about 2 inches from my ear – which ends up landing on my shoulder.
I am tired and really not in the mood for this kind of thing and such occurrences have a tendency to piss me off.
This is not the first time it's happened, and I know it won't be the last. The only saving grace is the stuff it sprays doesn't last long so by the time I got back to my office, I no longer smelled "refreshed."
Peace out.

New poll added: When will you install CRM 4.0?
Greetings Everyone,
I added a new poll today to gauge interest in CRM 4.0:
When will you install CRM 4.0?
- Immediately
- 3 months
- 6 months
- 12 Months
- After hotfix rollup 1
The poll is located at the bottom of my blog's table of contents.
Thanks, Mitch
Note: I am seeing some type of bug with my Poll Control related to IE 7 on Vista, or maybe just IE 7. It does not occur when using IE 6 and on one machine I tried, it worked fine on IE 7 on Windows Server.
Basically, when you click the Vote button or View Results link, the spinning dial will appear and nothing else. If you vote, it will record your response but not show you the results. If you're looking for the results, it will never display them.
I'll check later in the week to see if there is an update for the control that fixes the issue.

He who should live forever
While in New York a few weeks ago I was trolling through the TV stations when I hit upon a show on E! called, The Girls Next Door. The show is about some of the Playboy Bunnies that live at the Mansion.
Hugh Hefner makes occasional appearances ( heck it's his house ) and I got to noticing he is starting to show his age.
Then a totally random thought popped into my head ( yeah, you've never heard that one from me, huh ):
If any man deserved to live forever it would be Hugh Hefner.
Long live Hugh!

Riding the black snake
Well, at some point in your life, you finally start to get old and have to start doing stuff involving medical procedures. As my friend Bruce R. said once, "You know you're getting old when you start standing around discussing what procedures you've had." So true.
Anyway, I had my first colonoscopy on December 31st. "Riding the black snake" as a friend of one of my customer's says.
In case you don't know about the procedure, it's when they stick a tube ( which happens to be black ) containing a camera up your rear-end to take a look at your colon.
The actual procedure is mostly painless since they knock you out before they start the process.
The real issue is in the preparation. For some reason, they would like your colon to be clean. This means no real food for the day before, nothing to eat or drink the day of, either. That's not too bad since chicken broth and Jello are on the list of approved stuff.
The problem lies in the cleansing drink they make you take. It's active ingredient is sodium phosphate – which tastes like "liquid ass juice," if you can picture that in your mind. I even bought the "cherry flavored" version which was an out and out lie. Nothing can overpower the flavor of ass. I think they just put cherries on the packaging to make you think it tasted of cherries. I almost threw up drinking the crap.
Speaking of crap; oh boy. My Dad was kidding me about running up his water bill – after telling me he had gone to town and eaten a double-cheeseburger and a milk shake – as I drank my cup of broth.
The instructions from the Dr's office said you "could use Vaseline on your bottom" to ease irritation. Than God for that.
Anyway, everything was fine and the Dr. found no polyps or cancer so that all good.
But, for some reason, when I ask my friends if they want to see pictures of my colon, everyone gives me a funny look and says no.
Oh well.

Issues related to Installing CRM 4.0 in a co-located environment
Kevin Collins, a friend at one of my partner companies, Integrated Data Architects, ran into an issue getting the Outlook client connected to their CRM server which is co-located at a site in Dallas.
CRM 4.0 now has something called an Internet Facing Deployment which is a new way of configuring CRM which came into play in this case. Read Kevin's article on what he found and how he resolved it.

Windows Live Writer 2008
I have been using the beta of Windows Live Writer since it was released and I noticed last week that they had finally reached a full release version a few weeks ago.
To be quite honest, it has totally changed my blogging habits. I use the WordPress blogging engine and Windows Live Writer has made me at least 10 times more productive than using the native WordPress blog entry creation tool. I have WLW open most of the time in case I have a sudden
Not only is WLW easy to use, but the addition of an open API that would allow developers to create plugins that further enhance its capabilities.
Since many of my articles revolve around development using a variety of languages, I often find it necessary to include programming code snippets into my articles. I use the following plugins to give me that functionality:
Code Snippet plugin for Windows Live Writer
Issues
I really haven't had any issues with WLW until the production release. Most of my work is one on "development" servers which are running Windows 2003 Server. This is usually where I have WLW installed. Unfortunately, the production release of WLW will not install on Windows Server, which I am assuming they deem to be a security risk. This will make my blog posting a bit more cumbersome since I'll have to write the article from my Vista workstation and, I guess, RDP into my serve to pull code and screen shots. Oh well, the path of progress.
If you're blogging and not using WLW, I suggest you give it a try and see what you think.
