  • Stunnware releases Filtered Lookup for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0

Posted on January 21st, 2008 mitch Print Print 2 comments

The Filtered Lookup for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 is the successor of the Custom Lookup Dialog for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. Initially being a workaround to filter lookup results, it grew to a tool set with a lot more functions than initially thought. As of January 2008, the current version of the Custom Lookup Dialog for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 is 1.4.3.

  • Setting the publish date using Windows Live Writer

Posted on January 21st, 2008 mitch Print Print No comments

Windows Live Writer has a "publish date" feature that allows you to set the date and time when an article is to be published on your blog.  I've always wanted to use the feature, but I wasn't exactly sure how it works.  Luckily Thomas has a really good explanation here.  I tested it this weekend and the article was published as requested.

  • CRM 4.0 Workflow: Setting the Primary Contact's Parent Customer

Posted on January 21st, 2008 mitch Print Print 8 comments

I am becoming more and more impressed with the workflow capabilities of CRM 4.0.  I am finding that I can create workflows to automate minor tasks to enhance CRM's functionality or to correct what I consider to be "annoyances."

One of these involves the relationship between the Primary Contact for an Account and that Contact's Parent Customer field.

When I set the Primary Contact on an Account, I would like it to automatically edit that Contact's record and update the Parent Customer field to point back to the Account.  It's always seemed fairly logical to me to have these two fields linked, but that's not the way it has worked, until now.

We're going to define a workflow based on the Account Entity ( I've renamed my Account Entity to be Company, but it works just the same ).  Here's how the initial workflow configuration will look:

    image

    Options:

    Start when:

    • Record is created
    • Record attributes change ( select the Primary Contact Attribute )

    Available to Run:

    • On demand

    Steps:

    1) Check for existing data

1a) If the Primary Contact's Parent Customer Attribute does not contain data, perform the next step:

     image

( Basically, if the user has set the Attribute manually, we don't wish to overwrite their work. )

    2) Update the Related Entities: Primary Contact record.

    3) Set the Parent Customer Attribute:

    image

This will make our workflow look like this:

    image

Publish the workflow.  From this point forward, every time you set the Primary Contact for an Account, the workflow rule will run and if you have not already, it will update the Primary Contact's Parent Customer Attribute to point to the Account.

  • It's the little things in life that just piss me off. Part II

Posted on January 15th, 2008 mitch Print Print No comments

You know, all things told, everything in my little world is pretty good right right now.  Me, Yahweh, and the Universe have reached a relatively copasetic arrangement of a sort.  The plusses and minuses of my actions in everyday life more or less equal out.

Until tonight that is, when that everything went horribly wrong.

I stopped by my favorite Mexican restaurant tonight for a margarita and some take out.  I didn't eat all of the chips and salsa with my meal so as I was putting the remainder in the fridge, when the following happened:

    ATT66364

Just to catch everyone up to speed, you're looking at my kitchen floor.  That's the green with yellow-stripes part.  The mangled Styrofoam cup held the remainder of my salsa, which you will notice is now all over the green with yellow-stripes part of my kitchen.

The black thing, that you will also notice in the photograph, is the HANDLE TO MY FREAKING REFRIDGERATOR .  Which broke off when I attempted to open the fridge tonight.

I'm not exactly sure of the interaction of the handle, me, and the salsa cup, but as you can see, the everyone lost in this totally senseless battle.

So at this point, I'm not exactly sure who I pissed off: God or the Universe.  Not that it really matters or anything.  It's just something else I have to fix…

By the way, in case you need to know  The easiest way to clean salsa off the floor is to use a dustpan and a sponge…

  • Movie Review: Shoot 'Em Up

Posted on January 10th, 2008 mitch Print Print No comments

Wow! Talk about gratuitous violence; Shoot 'Em Up certainly lives up to its title.  Shots being fired take up about half of the movie.  Luckily, the plot doesn't get in the way of the action.

Clive Owen makes a fairly respectable Good Guy with Monica Bellucci providing the Eye Candy.

I also noticed two things that I don't think have ever been covered in cinema before:

    1) A love scene involving a fire fight.

    2) A shoot-out in mid-air after the parties in question parachuted out from a perfectly good airplane.

Anyway, it's mindless entertainment and something to occupy your time should you get bored. Watch it at home on pay per view so you can fast forward through the talking parts and get back to seeing Clive shooting the bad guys.
