Daylight Saving Time Changes for 2007
I saw mention of this Ben Vollmer's blog this past weekend then one of my other friends at Microsoft sent me a link to the following article:
How to configure daylight saving time for the United States in 2007
Evidentially, the Energy Policy Act of 2005 changed the Daylight Saving Time start and end dates, among other things.
Microsoft has released a time zone update for Windows XP Service Pack 2 and Windows Server 2003 that configures all these changes automatically. Some of these changes occur in 2007, and some changes occurred after these versions of Windows were originally released. The time zone updates include new registry subkeys that are named Dynamic DST for some time zones. These subkeys contain information about past or future changes in some time zones. This information is not used directly by versions of Windows that are earlier than Windows Vista. The information is provided for other programs that may use it to predict or to compute future or past time zone information.
The following list shows some of the major changes that have occurred for daylight saving time:
• United States
Beginning in the spring of 2007, the start dates and end dates for daylight saving time (DST) will change to comply with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. DST dates for 2007 in the United States and Canada will start three weeks earlier (2:00 AM on the second Sunday in March), and will end one week later (2:00 A.M. on the first Sunday in November).• Canada
All provinces in Canada that use daylight saving time have adopted the same changes as the United States.• Mexico
Mexico has not adopted the DST changes that were made in the United States. Therefore, separate time zone definitions must be used for Mexico.• Uruguay
A new time zone has been created for Montevideo, Uruguay.• Brazil
There are different DST dates in Brazil.• Israel
There are different DST dates in Israel.• Egypt
There are different DST dates in Egypt.• Sri Lanka
The local time offset has changed from UTC+6:00 to UTC+5:30.• Additional time zone changes.

Dynamics Certification Logo Available
Back in May of 2006, when I got 3 of my Dynamics CRM certifications, I suggested heavily to the MBS Certification people that they really needed to invest a little effort in creating a logo that matches the other Microsoft logos we have. Well, at some point in the recent past, they did that:
You can find it here:
https://www.certificationlogobuilder.com/logobuilder_dynamics.aspx
This requires a passport login which will be tied to something on the MCP Certification System back end to only give you authorization for your specific certifications.

Joke of the day
I usually don't pass around jokes, but this one had me laughing for days.
Why females should avoid a girls night out after they are married…
The other night I was invited out for a night with "the girls."
I told my husband that I would be home by midnight, "I promise!"
Well, the hours passed and the margaritas went down way too easy. Around 3AM, a bit worse for wear, I headed for home.
Just as I got in the door, the cuckoo clock in the hall started up and cuckooed 3 times.
Quickly, realizing my husband would probably wake up, I cuckooed another 9 times. I was really proud of myself for coming up with such a quick-witted solution, in order to escape a possible conflict with him.(Even when totally smashed…3 cuckoos plus 9 cuckoos totals 12 cuckoos = MIDNIGHT!)
The next morning my husband asked me what time I got in, and I told him "Midnight." He didn't seem concerned at all.Whew! Got away with that one!
Then he said, "We need a new cuckoo clock."
When I asked him why he said that, "Well, last night our clock cuckooed three times. Then it said, "Oh sh*t.," cuckooed 4 more times, cleared its throat, cuckooed another 3 times, giggled, Cuckooed
twice more, and then tripped over the coffee table and farted."Meanderings 1,177 views -
Comment of the day. 01/12/2007
I have some of the best friends in the world. This comment came from one of them as he described his workplace:
This place is getting nuttier than squirrel shit.
That's a new saying for me, and I grew up in Arkansas, so I think that means a lot.

Dynamics CRM Mobile Express Installation Instructions
I'm not sure how many of you have explored the CRM Mobile Express client, but I wanted to point you to an alternative set of installation instructions.
Andy Goodman has created a document that not only outlines the Mobile Express installation, but it also walks you through configuring ISA to allow the Mobile Express client to function properly through the firewall.
It's a great piece of work and even if you skip all of the ISA stuff, Andy's instructions contains screen shots which make the installation process much easier to understand.
Great work Andy.

Showing two time zones within Outlook 2003
If you do a lot of business with a person or company that is in another time zone, I think you will find that having an alternate time zone shown on your outlook calendar takes some of the mental calculations out of scheduling a meeting. For example, I currently have my calendar show both Eastern and Central time zones, as shown below:
To configure Outlook 2003 to utilize this feature, perform the following steps:
1) Select Tools, Options to display the Outlook Options dialog box:
2) Click the Calendar Options button to display the Calendar Options.
3) Click the Time Zone button to display your Time Zone configuration:
4) The Current time zone group shows time zone information for your current location. When you check Show an additional time zone, it activates a secondary time zone.
5) Set the Label to the value that you would like displayed on your calendar.
Note: Keep it short.
6) Set the Time zone for the additional time zone you wish to add to your calendar.
7) Check Adjust for daylightsaving time should you wish that option turned on.
8) Click OK until you're back to the main Outlook screen.
That's it. When you now view your calendar, you'll see the additional time zone shown to the left of your current time zone. As I mentioned earlier, this feature is really useful should you need to quickly determine the local time for a person that may be on the other side of the planet.

Interesting find of the week
While cleaning out my archives last week, I ran across the backpack I received when I attended the Microsoft Dynamics Convergence show in Dallas last March. Inside, I found this:
Betcha can't guess what it is.
Well, it would appear I had placed some lunch left-overs into my backpack with the intent of finishing them off later in the day. The reddish thing on top is an apple, while the brownish lump in plastic, is a half-eaten brownie.
Both of which are totally fossilized and fused together.

In case you ever need to know…
This is the universal symbol for "Don't let your kids play with the plastic bag that the computer was shipped in." At least according to Compaq Computer.
